Description

  • Translate a wide variety of documents from English to French using translation software for speed and consistency, following established style guides and templates
  • Clarify the meaning, feeling and intent of content to be translated with the requesting client, as needed
  • Communicate routinely and collaborate with the team leader and colleagues to ensure that translations are accurate and reflect the meaning, feeling and intent of the source text
  • Adapt translations as required by the reviser and according to subject matter, target group, client preferences and latest legislation updates
  • Contribute to quality of College French language products and communications through advice and counsel to College staff on terminology, lexicon and phrasing, among others
  • Conduct terminological research and contribute to enriching the team’s knowledge base
  • Be familiar with the new French orthograph rules and apply them
  • Contribute to quality assurance reviews of corporate website and all published material
  • Work closely and in alignment with other teams in the unit - corporate communications, digital media, and the production centre - to enhance the efficiency of translation services and the quality of services provided to colleagues
  • Manage specific portfolios and act as a resource person
  • Establish and maintain positive work relations, effective planning, accountability and reporting, and awareness of emerging issues
  • Keep current with College operations and political developments related to education in Ontario
  • Provide back-up support for the translation coordinator, as needed, using an internal workflow management system (FlowFit) to manage the translation workload according to established priorities to meet tight deadlines, and outsourcing to a pre-authorized list of suppliers, as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by translation team lead and manager of communications.

Responsibilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Translation or in a related field
  • Five years’ experience in translation is preferred
  • Thorough understanding of Franco-Ontarian linguistic and cultural context
  • Professional certification as a translator (or in the process of obtaining certification) is required for this position (OTTIAQ, ATIO, ATA or other)
  • Experience with translation software (CAT application such as LogiTerm, Trados or other)
  • Experience with workflow management software (FlowFit or other) is an asset
  • Experience in Ontario public education or with an Ontario professional body is an asset.
