At the heart of our journalistic efforts are high quality analysis and accurate, balanced reporting delivered in a fast paced environment and sometimes against tight deadlines.

We're currently looking for passionate, talented and flexible simultaneous interpreters to backfill gaps in our team as paid freelance interpreters in London.

Responsibilities

You'll have a record of interpretations from English to Arabic and vice versa. A third language is a plus. You will be required to interpret live events, top politicians, state leaders and English speaking commentators (2 way) in our news bulletins and programmes. You will need to prove a high level of accuracy and expertise with no script available in live breaking news scenarios and speeches often under pressure and at short notice.

What to expect?

If you are selected to become a part of the pool, you will be on our list of freelancers who may be asked to work day or night shifts in the office.

Package Description

All opportunities offered, as a result of appointment to this talent pool, will be on a Freelance PAYE basis.

Appointment to the Talent Pool will not entitle candidates to a permanent contract in the BBC, those will have to be applied for in the normal way, and neither does it guarantee work. However, it may lead to consideration for broader freelance opportunities across BBC News.

Any freelance work offered will be carried out at our New Broadcasting House office in Portland Place, London, W1A 1AA.

If you already have a current staff contract with the BBC (continuing or fixed term), you won't be eligible to apply.

Any work offered with the BBC will be conditional upon you having the right to work in the UK.
