Description
- 
Manage interpreting schedule in a manner that serves the campus efficiently.
 - 
Identify scheduling conflict and provide recommended solutions.
 - 
Serve as the lead on Staff and Faculty ADA and Accessibility committees and initiative.
 - 
Interpretation for upper-division culture and literature courses taught in English. These courses are available to non-signers and do not have ASL language pre-requisites. Some are or are being proposed to meet College and Campus Curriculum requirements.
 - 
Interpretation for meetings with students to discuss issues regarding grades, class standing and other necessary requirements with an interpreter present to ensure understanding.
 - 
Mentoring advanced student TAs and interns. The program, like all languages in the department, offers opportunities to assist in lower-level courses and to do teaching internships in those courses to advanced students interested in teaching, translation, and interpretation. As these activities often involve voicing, mentoring by a professional in the field is essential.
 - 
Provide interpretation to facilitate integration of the ASL faculty into the life of the department, the college, the university, and the community - Provide interpretation that would facilitate access by the campus and community to the offerings, opportunities, and culture of the ASL program and faculty.
 - 
Interpretation during regularly scheduled staff meetings.
 - 
Interpretation during campus events attended by Facilities Services staff Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.
 - 
Working knowledge of higher educational settings/environments.
 - 
Demonstrated knowledge of Deaf culture and communication styles.
 - 
Knowledge / familiarity with the role of the professional interpreter, and RID’s Code of Professional Conduct.
 - 
Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), specifically as it applies to Deaf/HH individuals. - Knowledge of educational programs and the lexicon of advanced university level courses.
 - 
Strong Sign-to-Voice skills. Excellence in reception and voicing in the university context.
 - 
Knowledge of and ability to assess and apply technology to perform the requirements of the position; ability to effectively utilize a variety of computer software applications, which may include but are not limited to e-mail, Internet, word processing, electronic calendar, presentation development, spreadsheet, database, etc.; willingness to stay current and develop skills as needed.
 - 
Ability to be flexible, particularly in relation to weekly scheduling of interpreting assignments; occasional evening / weekend work required.
 - 
Ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of interpreting services consumers.
 - 
Ability to respond effectively and positively to feedback.
 - 
Ability to work cooperatively with others and to participate effectively in a team setting.
 - 
Strong, positive interpersonal skills and leadership skills.
 
Responsibilities

Proficient knowledge required in American Sign Language.
 - 
Ability to use computers efficiently.

Ability and willingness to learn programs needed in the ELC and tutor students in the same skills.
 - 
Ability to set a schedule and keep scheduled hours.
 - 
Ability to explain and demonstrate Deaf cultural norms for ASL students.
 - 
Ability to explain how and why things are signed the way they are in ASL.
 - 
Good interpersonal skills. In particular, we are looking for someone to help students express themselves in their target language.

Demonstrated proficiency with student learning and academic success.
 - 
Experience working with freshmen and transfer students in a higher education environment.
 - 
Experience working with high-need students in a tutoring, mentoring, or advising capacity.
 - 
Experience working with diverse populations in a multi-cultural environment that is committed to diversity and equity in education.
 - 
Experience supporting peers in developing collaborative learning techniques.
 -

Salary Range: Generally starting at $38,000 - $42,500
